WORK-BASED
TRAINING OPTIONS
Skillbridge
This work training option is designed for those re-entering the workforce within the last six months of military service. This transitional program is funded by the Department of Defense, who covers all wages, benefits, and worker compensation, and is focused on in-demand, high-skill occupations. The goal of the program is to create a clear career path for our service men and women while providing local businesses with new talent. There is no limit on the amount of service members your organization can obtain, so this would be an impactful opportunity to build your dream team while making a difference for someone who has defended our country.
(OJT) – On-The-Job Training
This program is designed for adult dislocated workers who are currently unemployed and aims to upskill participants, which will in turn provide them with more opportunities and the company with which they work will benefit from an employee with a higher, focused skill set. The company would hire the program participant with a specific position in mind and that employee would receive targeted skill-focused training. This would be particularly beneficial for manufacturing and production companies. CareerSource North Central Florida will cover 50% of the wages (not including benefits) for up to 1,040 hours or 6 months. The wages would be whatever is typically offered for that position up to $22 an hour. Reimbursement for wages is capped at $20K per employer.
(EWT) – Employed Worker Training
If an employer needs training for their current staff in order to improve the quality of their workforce through enhanced skills attainment, productivity and competitiveness this program may be able to help. The employer may be reimbursed up to 50% of the total training cost for workers that successfully complete training.
(WEX) – Work Experience
This option is designed for individuals between the ages of 16 – 24 and focuses on placing them as interns with companies where they will receive mentorship with focus on soft skills and building their resume. As a business participating in this program, there is no cost to you- 100% of the intern’s wages will be covered for up to 300 hours or until the end of that intern’s training plan.
(IWT) – Incumbent Worker Training
This work training option is federally funded and tailored for employees who have been with your organization for six months or more who need specific training- this could be used for continuing education hours, company-developed training, attending a conference, or up to twelve months in a classroom and/or worksite. Your organization will set the employee’s wage for the training and a percentage of that wage will be reimbursed to you. Get the competitive edge by giving your employees new/improved skills and offset the cost of doing so by utilizing the federal grant dollars that are at your disposal.
