The 3rd Annual walking tour between the Cotton Club Museum and Cultural Center, and the Cade Museum for Creativity + Invention will highlight the theme “Science, History and Art are Never Apart” on Feb. 25, 2017 from 1 to 4 p.m. This event will be open and free to the public.
“Cotton to the Cade” celebrates the great science, history and art that is happening in the Gainesville community. Stops along Depot Avenue will include the Cotton Club, Prioria Robotics, Depot Park, the Poole building, the Baird building, Make.Work/The Tech Toybox, and the Cade Museum for Creativity + Invention. Each location will have activities that are family friendly and highlight some part of the theme.
Experience hands-on science with the Cade Museum, and learn about how energy is produced with Gainesville Regional Utilities’ light display at Make.Work/The Tech Toybox. Try your hand at comic book art from Sequential Artists Workshop (SAW). Experience African-American Art with the Harn Museum of Art, and learn more about the history of the Baird Building while seeing beautiful art by Akira Wood. Explore history with the Matheson History Museum, fossils from the Florida Museum of Natural History, and take a site tour of the historic Cotton Club Museum and Cultural Center while listening to gospel choirs with an opportunity to join in a song-a-long. Get a glimpse into future construction with Oelrich Construction, Inc., check out Make.Work/The Tech Toybox’s restoration progress, and engage with the Gainesville Police Department in their community outreach effort.

Attendees are encouraged to begin and end at either the Cotton Club or Cade Museum locations. Parking will be available at those locations and guide maps will be provided. Please note that the Menagerie in Motion Kinetic Derby will be held the same morning and Depot Avenue from Main street east to 4th street will be closed to vehicle traffic for part of the day.
