Ensure an Accurate Count
The Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce is collaborating with the U.S. Census Bureau to help achieve a complete and accurate count of our nation’s growing population during the 2010 Census. Our population is rapidly changing, and accurate census data are needed to help advance local businesses and make positive improvements in our community. Consider the following:
Every year, the federal government distributes more than $400 billion to state, local and tribal governments based on census data.
For the business community, census data are critical to help companies make strategically and fiscally sound decisions that spur and sustain economic development and growth.
Census data help inform critical business decisions companies make, from marketing and capital spending to merchandising and work force decisions. Census data also can help businesses understand customers’ demographic needs to better tailor products and services.
A stronger local economy will benefit businesses by making it easier to attract employees and sell products and services.
For our communities, census data help guide planning decisions, such as where to provide additional social services, build new roads, hospitals and schools, and where to locate job-training centers.
As a Census Bureau partner, we will communicate information about the 2010 Census with employees, customers, business and industry partners, and the surrounding community through various communications efforts, events and more. Every person in the United States must be counted in 2010 – both citizens and noncitizens – and we are committed to helping the Census Bureau achieve this goal.
Additionally, we ask for your support and encourage you to let others know they can make a difference in their community by being counted. Encourage them to complete and return the 2010 Census form, which will be delivered or mailed in March 2010. It is important for everyone to understand the census is easy, important and safe, and participation is vital.

Achieving a complete and accurate count of our nation is an important and monumental undertaking, and we are proud to be involved in this initiative. An accurate count can affect the future of our business and the quality of life in our community for the better.
