Gainesville Area Chamber Launching Political CommitteeMay 31st, 2016 by gainesvillechamber
The Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce announced today that it will launch a political committee. The overall mission of the Chamber is to promote business growth, economic development and community progress.
“Last Thursday, the Gainesville Chamber Board of Directors voted unanimously to launch a political committee. Its purpose is to independently advocate for business-friendly leadership at the local and state level on a non-partisan basis for the benefit of the greater Gainesville region, and in support of the public policy agenda of the Gainesville Chamber,” said Bryan Harrington, Chair of the Public Policy Committee of the Gainesville Chamber Board of Directors. “The committee shall operate as a separate organization from the Gainesville Chamber, with no member dues being used to fund the political committee. A separate Board of Directors shall manage the affairs of the political committee,” added Mr. Harrington.
“The political committee shall be authorized to endorse and financially support candidates for state, county, school board and municipal offices, who recognize and are supportive of the principles and agenda of the Gainesville Chamber,” said Kamal I. Latham, Vice President for Public Policy at the Chamber. “It shall also be authorized to endorse and financially support issues and initiatives promoting business growth and economic development,” added Mr. Latham.
