The Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors recently passed a resolution encouraging the next President of the United States to address comprehensive tax reform within the first 100 days in office.
“Prosperity for American businesses and individuals would be greatly improved through the comprehensive reform of the current tax code,” said Bryan Harrington, Chair of the Gainesville Chamber’s Public Policy Committee.
“The next U.S. President should address comprehensive tax reform within the first 100 days in office,” said Kamal Latham, Vice President of Public Policy at the Chamber.
Last Wed., business, community and elected leaders met with former US Sen. Alan Simpson, co-chair of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform. He led this Commission in 2010 with Co-Chair Erskine Bowles.
Within multiple discussions throughout the day, Simpson provided attendees first-hand perspective on the details of the country’s financial challenges and opportunities to address them, before headlining a public speaking engagement in the Pugh Hall Ocora at the Bob Graham Center for Public Service at the University of Florida.
The Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform was appointed by President Barack Obama to identify policies to improve the fiscal situation in the medium term and achieve fiscal sustainability over the long run. Simpson and Bowles co-lead a business group, The National Campaign to Fix the Debt.
