Sam’s Club and Walmart Supercenter Construction UnderwayAugust 29th, 2015 by gainesvillechamber
Sam’s Club and Walmart join Lowe’s, all now under construction in Butler North, the 750,000 square foot expansion of Butler Plaza.
A new name at the Butler retail complex, the 140,225 square foot Sam’s Club, which includes a gas station, is expected to open in late summer of 2016. Walmart Supercenter, 193,000 square feet, will also open its doors next summer at Butler North, vacating its current location in Butler Plaza East. J. Raymond Construction of Longwood, Florida, is managing construction work for both stores.
The Butler North project is currently the largest private sector construction project in North Central Florida. The supporting transportation infrastructure for the new center will enhance the 360° access to Butler Plaza and provide traffic relief for surrounding streets and highways.
This fall’s opening of the new Lowe’s and next summer’s opening of the relocated Walmart Supercenter will set the stage for beginning the construction of the 350,000 square feet Butler Town Center that will be situated on the current Butler Plaza East site.
Butler Plaza, located in southwest Gainesville, FL, is owned and operated by the private and local company, Butler Enterprises. Currently, stretching for approximately one mile with over one million square feet and more than 70 tenants; Butler Plaza is the largest retail center in North Central Florida.
