GRU General Manager Visits Chamber, Talks PrioritiesAugust 7th, 2015 by gainesvillechamber
After only about 45 days on the job, GRU General Manager Ed Beilarski took time out to sit down with Chamber leaders, members and staff to give a high-level assessment of GRU’s current operations as well as an overview of his vision and goals for the utility. During his talk, Beilarski, as well as David Richardson, GRU’s Interim Chief Financial Officer, attributed progress achieved as a result of the utility’s response to recommendations made in the Chamber’s 2013 Energy Competitiveness Report. The Report’s recommendations were designed to help Gainesville become a more competitive community for sustainable economic growth as it relates to overall energy costs.
With a sense of urgency, Beilarski expressed his desire to explore multiple, potential options to bring down electric rates for Alachua County businesses and residents. Achieving competitive electric rates is a long-term effort and the Chamber will invite GRU leadership to meet with the business community again in the future and further the dialogue.
