Public Leadership Institute Application Period Open

BCC PLI logoToday, Brian Scarborough—a graduate of the Business Community Coalition’s 2013 Public Leadership Institute (PLI) — serves on the Gainesville Regional Airport Board of Directors. The PLI is a non-partisan program for professionals in the Alachua County/Gainesville area who want to learn about public-policy issues while exploring the possibility of engaging in public leadership at some point in their future. Thirty-two percent of PLI alumni are present or past public leaders.

“The Public Leadership Institute teaches you how to allocate money, what the process of running for office should be and how you should be appealing to people,” said Scarborough, who also is an owner of Scarborough Insurance, a third-generation family business. “It explains the way people vote and what you should really focus on.”

The Business Community Coalition (BCC) has opened the application period for the 2015 Public Leadership Institute, a partnership between the Gainesville Area Chamber, the Gainesville-Alachua County Association of Realtors and the Builders Association of North Central Florida. This competitive program will provide participants an opportunity to learn about leadership, candidacy, and public policy issues — from “getting on the ballot to sitting in the seat”—in a small setting.  No commitment is required to run for office.

Applications are due by July 2 and can be accessed here. For more information, contact or at 352-378-2498.
