Local SHRM Chapter Hosts Pre-Employment Workshop to Prep Veterans for Job FairJune 27th, 2015 by gainesvillechamber
The North Central Florida Society for Human Resources Management (NCF-SHRM) will set up shop later today at the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce to host “Resume Tips and Interview Strategies: Translating Military Experience to Civilian Jobs” for Veterans in preparation for the upcoming Veteran Job Fair. This pre-employment workshop will discuss ways Veterans can effectively sell military experience when applying for civilian jobs and takes place 5:30-6:30 p.m. at 300 E. University Ave. Suite 100.
NCF-SHRM representatives will also be available on-site the day of the Veteran job fair to provide additional assistance, advice and answers to job readiness questions. The Veteran Job Fair will take place on Thursday, July 2 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. ET at the Martin Luther King Jr. Multipurpose Center, 1029 N.E. 14th St. Both events, pre-employment workshop and job fair, are free and open to all people who currently or previously served in the military
Several community organizations partnered to host Gainesville’s second semi-annual Veteran Job Fair, including the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce, Alachua County, City of Gainesville, United States Department of Veterans Affair, Collegiate Veterans Success Center at University of Florida, Santa Fe College and CareerSource North Central Florida.
More than 30 employers of various sizes and diverse industries—such as the North Florida Evaluation & Treatment Center, Tower Hill, ResCare, Gainesville Regional Utilities, Gaston’s Tree Service LLC and more—have already registered. Registration is still open and local employers are encouraged to register. Companies interested in attending may register by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
