Health Care will be the Highlight at Pancakes & Public PolicyOctober 15th, 2012 by gainesvillechamber
The Affordable Care Act, a piece of legislation that puts in place strong consumer protection and provides alternative health care coverage options, will be the highlight of this month’s Pancakes & Public Policy. October’s event will feature Moore Hallmark, Executive Director for the Southeastern Region of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, who will be speaking alongside other panelists about how the Affordable Care Act could have the potential to affect Chamber’s member businesses. The event will take place on Friday, Oct. 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church’s Multipurpose Room, located at 120 SE Williston Road
Brian Scarborough, co-owner of Scarborough Insurance, has attended past Pancakes & Public Policy forums and believes that the event is especially important for new members to attend.
“Pancakes & Public Policy is a great event for new members to attend because they get to hear from our local and state officials directly and pose questions about issues that impact their individual business and industry,” said Scarborough. “Sometimes trying to contact these people on an individual basis can be difficult, but the Chamber makes it easy by creating the forum and delivering this unique opportunity to its membership.”
The discussion forum is a unique event to the Chamber’s Public Policy department that brings in elected officials and/or subject matter experts to discuss relevant topics that could have the potential to affect Chamber business owners. Prospective attendees should come prepared to engage with speakers and learn the basics about important pieces of legislation. While the Chamber attracts business owners from diverse political backgrounds, the objective of the Chamber’s public policy department is to gain a deeper understanding of current political issues.
For October’s Pancakes & Public Policy, doors will open at 8:15 a.m. and pre-registration is preferred. The cost to attend is $10 for members and $15 for nonmembers. Additionally, don’t forget to pick up a copy of this year’s third Business Advocate to get a closer look at other relevant issues that could have an impact on your business.
